Edson's Last Service at Mure Memorial

We are all so sorry that Edson’s last Sunday with us was 28th January, 2024.

He will probably never know the full impact he had on the folk of Mure Memorial.

From a pastoral point of view, he brought comfort and peace to everyone he visited – in homes or in hospitals – and he will be sadly missed.

His faith and passion for the Lord and His Word were evident from his very first day with us.

His all-age talks had our youngsters’ attention and his reflections helped us see how relative the Bible is in our daily lives.

He captured all our hearts – from Primary school age to our centenarian of 102 who follows “live” every Sunday – and we smiled at his determination to master the Glasgow vernacular –and very successfully!

It’s well documented that hugs are good for us.  A hug can lower blood pressure, it helps us relax and lowers anxiety.  Edson is a Super Hugger!  We had never before seen our members queuing up on the aisle at the close of a service to hug him!  Another example of how much his Church family loved and respected him.

The hymns he chose for his penultimate Sunday with us, his prayers, his all-age talk about Jonah, his reflection and his poem – all about following where the Lord may lead -we all understood the turmoil in his heart and in his head.

No one knows what the future holds for Edson, but the Lord does, and wherever He calls him to will be our loss and their gain. So, we wish him well on his journey of faith and it only remains to say – obrigado, obrigado, boa sorte, and God Bless him and his family in the days ahead.

Many thanks to Moira who presented a heartfelt tribute, which hardly left a dry eye in the church. Also thanks to her for the words above.
